Welcome to the Institute of Swimming (IOS) Insurance Centre


As a teacher or coach registered with the IOS you will find information here about the insurance included in your membership affiliation, to protect you whilst undertaking your teaching/coaching activities.

If you teach independently/freelance as a sole trader in your own name, insurance is available by virtue of membership with the Institute of Swimming.

The Insurance provided includes

Public Liability & Professional Indemnity This protects affiliated teachers and coaches if held responsible and are negligent for causing injury to someone else or damage to someone's property whilst undertaking their teaching/coaching and officiating of aquatic activities, to their level of qualification,  as recognised by the IOS.

Personal Accident This 'no fault benefit provides cover to IOS members for death, permanent total disablement injury and temporary total disablement from your usual occupation for injury sustained  whilst taking part in IOS recognised Teaching and Coaching Activity.

Loss of Revenue Providing a contribution to your Loss of income due to temporary closure of a swimming pool within UK and Eire following the occurrence of an insured peril.

Legal Helplines and Expenses Providing the IOS members with access to Legal Helplines on matters of UK Law to help you manage your legal responsibilities as a swimming/Aquatic teacher or coach.  The cover also extends to provide legal expenses for certain matters, including:

  • Employment Disputes - Pursuit
  • Contract Disputes - Pursuit
  • Internal Disciplinary Hearings - Representation
  • Bodily Injury - Pursuit

It is essential that you obtain advice from Abbey Legal before you act to ensure that you do not prejudice your position.  If Abbey Legal have not been contacted prior to your action, they are unlikely to support the claim.
